My Theories About Song Meanings

Some lyrics of AFI songs are obvious. Others, less so. Davey can be quite poetic in his lyricism and even more cryptic in interviews about what lyrics mean. This is where I will put my thoughts and theories on what certain AFI songs mean, regardless if they have been confirmed to be about other things or not.

The Interview

This has got to be about a wedding. Particularly about the POV character not wanting the person they are singing about to get married to someone else. The ending of this song also features some great chords played on an organ which invokes wedding ceremony imagery.

"Pray for rain, lose your name and watch all your dreams fall through."

While it may be good luck no one actually wants it to rain on their wedding day. Losing your name could mean taking someone else's last name. And for some people getting married means settling down, letting go of other plans, so it would mean watching all your dreams fall through.
